     While the AWPGA emphasis is still very much on hunting and field work, the club has embraced the description of the Griffon as a "Versatile Hunting Dog."  Not only a field dog who hunts game, but also is effective in hunt tests, tracking, obedience, show, and agility.  Because of the AWPGA's AKC affiliation, reliable pedigree information on the breed is readily available.  The AWPGA promotes first class breeding practices by publishing and keeping track of results of OFA hip exams, hunt tests, show, obedience and agility successes.  AWPGA maintains active committees for field events, breed rescue, judges' education, breeder referral, and publishes a quarterly magazine.  The AWPGA conducts an annual National Specialty, the location of which alternates around the club's three regions, and draws dogs from across the country.  In the United States, largely due to the efforts of the AWPGA, many Wirehaired Pointing Griffons have demonstrated their competitive merit by earning obedience, agility, field, hunt, and show titles, including NAVHDA Versatile Champion, National Shoot to Retrieve Association Champion, AKC Master Hunter, and AKC Best in Show.

Membership Application

     We welcome all Griffon enthusiasts who share our commitment to promoting, protecting, and appreciating the breed.  We strive to continually educate ourselves and practice only careful selection, responsible breeding, and loving stewardship of these wonderful dogs.  If you are in good standing with the AKC and would like to PARTICIPATE in these areas, and have read, understood, and agree to abide by the Mission Statement,  By-Laws and Constitution, and Code of Ethics, then please fill out a New Membership Application or Existing Member Renewal Application and send it in today!  Existing members can also apply to participate in our Breeder Referral Program.

AWPGA Mission Statement

     Object of club shall be to encourage & promote the breeding of Purebred Wirehaired Pointing Griffons - and to do all possible to bring their natural hunting qualities to perfection.

     To urge members & breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the AKC as the only standard of excellence by which the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon shall be judged.

     To do all in its power to protect & advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsman-like competition at conformation shows, obedience trials & field events.

     To conduct sanctioned & licensed specialty shows, obedience trials and field events under the rules of the AKC.

     The AWPGA is a 501(c)7 non-profit  organization, as defined under the United States of America Tax Code.  Federal Tax ID # 93-1041835.
