Championing the Future: Why the AWPGA Futurity Is More Than Just a Competition

In the world of Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, excellence isn’t accidental—it’s intentional. That’s the spirit behind the AWPGA Futurity, a visionary program launching at the 2027 National Specialty to honor breeders who shape the future of the breed with foresight, integrity, and purpose. The AWPGA Futurity celebrates puppies bred with purpose—those whose lineage reflects health, temperament, and conformation aligned with our club’s standards and ethics. Through early nomination, CHIC-qualified parentage, and member stewardship, we spotlight promising young Griffons and the breeders who shape their legacy.

What Is Futurity?

Unlike the more spontaneous Sweepstakes, Futurity is a strategic celebration of puppies bred with purpose. Breeders nominate litters before birth, betting on the promise of their pups. To qualify, both parents must be CHIC-certified, and breeders and owners must be AWPGA members in good standing. It’s not just about pedigree—it’s about commitment to health, temperament, and conformation that align with the club’s highest standards.

Why It Matters Futurity isn’t just a show ring moment—it’s a movement. It encourages:

·       Thoughtful breeding: Litters are nominated before birth, spotlighting breeders who plan with precision.

·       Breed advancement: Puppies are evaluated for excellence, not just appearance.

·       Community engagement: Breeders and owners must be active members, reinforcing club values.

·       Recognition and reward: Prize money and prestige go to those who raise standout dogs.

How It Works

·       Litter Nomination: $50, due before birth

·       Puppy Nomination: $25, due by 16 weeks of age

·       Competition Age: Puppies must be at least 6 months old

·       Eligible Birth Window: October 2025 – April 2027

·       Age Classes: 6–9 months, 9–12 months, 12–15 months, 15–18 months, and 18–24 months

·       Payout Example: If 10 litters and 20 puppies are nominated, $1,000 is awarded—$750 to breeders, $250 to owners

Why You Should Participate Whether you’re a seasoned breeder or a passionate newcomer, the Futurity is your chance to:

·       Showcase your commitment to ethical, health-forward breeding

·       Gain recognition among peers and potential puppy owners

·       Contribute to the long-term vitality of the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

This inaugural Futurity waives late fees—so there’s no better time to step forward and be part of something enduring. Let’s celebrate the Griffons bred with heart, vision, and purpose. Let’s champion the future.

About the AWPGA Futurity

The AWPGA Futurity celebrates puppies bred with purpose — those whose lineage reflects health, temperament, and conformation

aligned with our club's standards and ethics. Through early nomination, CHIC-qualified parentage, and member stewardship, we

spotlight promising young Griffons and the breeders who shape their legacy.

Eligibility Window

For the 2027 National Specialty, litters born between September 16, 2025 and March 16, 2027 are eligible. Both the sire and dam

must hold current CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) qualifications at the time of nomination. The breeder must be a current

AWPGA member in good standing.

Litter Nomination — $50

Litters must be nominated prior to birth. If you nominate after the litter is born, a late fee applies. For the inaugural 2027 Futurity year,

the late fee is waived. The $50 nomination fee is non-refundable. CHIC numbers for both sire and dam are required at the time of

nomination.

Puppy Nomination — $25 per puppy

After whelping, individual puppies must be nominated no later than 16 weeks of age. Both the breeder and the primary owner of each

nominated puppy must hold current AWPGA membership. The $25 per-puppy fee is also non-refundable.

Competition Eligibility

Nominated puppies become eligible to compete in the Futurity once they reach 6 months of age. Age classes at the show are divided

as follows: 6–9 months, 9–12 months, 12–15 months, 15–18 months, and 18–24 months.

Prize Distribution

Prize money is drawn from nomination fees collected. Twenty percent is retained by the Futurity Committee for expenses. Of the

remaining pool, 75% is awarded to the breeder(s) of the Best in Futurity winner and 25% to the owner(s)/co-owner(s). For example, if

10 litters and 20 puppies are nominated, the total pool is $1,000 — with $600 going to the breeder and $200 to the owner.

Recognition

The winner of Best in Futurity will be offered a dedicated feature in the Griffonier magazine.
