Southern Plains Field Day - Garber, OK

Picture

The Southern Plains field day was held April 25, 2015 near Garber, Oklahoma.
Larry Woodward and his training partner, Tonyia Bartholomew, provided invaluable input and assistance.
The morning started covering the ins and outs of AKC and advanced NAVHDA testing and the intricacies of training the Griff for these higher levels of testing.  Initial field demonstrations related to steadiness work needed for success at the advanced testing levels in both venues.  After lunch, we progressed to other aspects of the Utility Test; duck drag steady by the blind, and marked retrieve.  After these demonstrations, we packed up and moved to the duck search pond and Tonyia showed what her Small Munsterlander could do.
In all it was a productive day and the participants walked away with a better understanding of the requirements for the advanced levels of testing, suggestions on how to train for these levels, and ways to work through scenarios when the training doesn’t go exactly as planned or your dog doesn’t perform as well as expected.
