CHIC - The Canine Health Information Center
Founded in 1966, it is the Orthopedic Foundation Association's mission to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease. The OFA website and databases provide the tools, whether you are a veterinarian, breeder, or prospective owner.
The AWPGA encourages our members to participate in the CHIC program. The Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
Effective August 1, 2017 the required tests are:
Regardless of breed, each dog must be permanently identified in order to have test results included in CHIC. Permanent identification may be in the form of microchip or tattoo.
Effective August 1, 2017 the required tests are:
- Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist- after the age of 12 months
Results registered with OFA - Elbow Dysplasia (One of the following)
OFA Evaluation
OVC Evaluation - Hip Dysplasia (One of the following)
OFA Evaluation
OVC Evaluation
PennHIP Evaluation - Autoimmune thyroiditis
OFA evaluation from an approved laboratory - *Note - As of August 1, 2017, Thyroid has been ADDED as a new CHIC REQUIREMENT per the AWPGA.
